Wellington Square is a large public open space situated in East Perth within the City of Perth. Wellington Square has recently undergone a major redevelopment to enhance the useability, safety and overall experience of the space.
With East Perth planned to accommodate many high-rise apartment buildings over the coming years the need for a family friendly, community orientated open space has been highlighted as a priority by the city planners.
As part of the upgrade to the parkland the City of Perth has installed numerous CCTV cameras throughout the park along with upgraded lighting both within the park and the surrounding streets to increase safety both during the day and at night. These cameras are monitored 24/7 by a dedicated team within the city.
The city also chose to expand their free city wide public WiFi to the park to allow visitors to stay connected for free.
Lightspeed Communications and Electrical worked alongside the city and the on-site contractors to install the fibre optic infrastructure to connect both the CCTV cameras and WiFi units to the cities main network. These works were staged to coincide with the civil works taking place on site to avoid any delays to the project being completed.
