Court Grammar School is a kindergarten to year 12 school located in Mundijong, Western Australia. The school has grown over a number of years and includes a number of specialized blocks spread over a large open site in Perth’s south east.
With the ever increasing demand for high speed connectivity, during 2020 the school planned for a major upgrade of the existing core and field network switching system to be under taken over the Christmas and New Year break.
As the existing fibre optic backbone network had been installed in phases as the school expanded, it was decided to upgrade the entire network to new singlemode fibre optic cables at the same time as the switching upgrade. The move to the new fibre optic network enables the current upgrade whilst also future proofing the network for many years to come.
Lightspeed Communications and Electrical worked alongside the school’s IT team to design and develop a network layout that not only allows for now but also for the future. The final design includes the ability to further expand when required in the future without the need to re-run large sections of cabling or disrupting the network elsewhere.
With short time frames to complete the fibre optic network and connections, Lightspeed’s experienced team worked through the Christmas and New Year period and were able to complete the project well ahead of schedule helping to minimize any downtime for the teachers and staff. With the network completed ahead of schedule the school’s IT team were able to complete their switching upgrade well ahead of plan.
