Newcrest Mining Ltd is one of the world’s largest gold mining companies, operating mine sites in four countries. Lightspeed Communications and Electrical regularly work with Newcrest Mining at their Telfer Mine Site, in the desert of North West WA.
In November 2017 Account Manager Matt Harris received a call from Telfer advising of a critical network issue with one of their fibre optic cables that required urgent attention.
Lightspeed was requested to mobilise the 1,700 kilometres to site within 48 hours to repair the damaged cable, ensuring minimal downtime for the client. Lightspeed personnel attended the site, assessed the cable damage and found it had been damaged both above and underground. They repaired the cable in both locations and tested the repaired cable. Test results and a report were then given to the client.
