Emergency Call Out: City of Perth Critical Fibre Optics
Lightspeed received a call from the City of Perth stating they had lost connectivity to the CPP Carpark under the Perth Convention Centre from their Council House server room. This link is critical to maintain carpark operation with major financial risk if the carpark is rendered inoperable.
Lightspeed attended the Convention centre within 30 minutes of the call and used an OTDR to determine the connectivity of the fibre back to Council House. A break in the fibre was identified and investigations found that contractors doing civil works had dug up and damaged the fibre.
The break was located, a new P5 pit was sourced and installed over the broken conduit. The fibre optic cable was joined in the pit as a temporary measure to get the communication link back up.
The total outage time was less than three hours.
In consultation with the City and the Civil contractors, replacement pipe and fibres were installed at a later date that suited the CoP and didn’t impact operations.
