Special Project Achievements: Working closely with multiple contractors and Lightspeed personnel to replace numerous CCTV poles with minimal downtime to operations

The City of Perth is the local government covering the Perth CBD, Northbridge, East Perth, West Perth and Crawley and provide services to the businesses and residents throughout the area.
As part of the community amenity and safety team the City of Perth owns, manages and maintains a vast network of CCTV cameras that monitor the city 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To ensure that the network is always ready and recording the city has a regular maintenance and replacement program that includes not only the cameras, networking and recording equipment, but also the poles that the cameras are installed on.
The cities pole replacement program is designed to renew the oldest poles across the city with new multifunction poles that allow for the installation of multiple CCTV cameras, public WiFi access points and smart city equipment on attractive modern poles.
Lightspeed Communications and Electrical work with multiple contractors to remove the existing cameras, WiFi access points and cabling from the poles before our civils team remove the existing poles and footings. The new poles are then installed before the fibre optic and power cables, CCTV cameras and WiFi access points get re-installed, tested and commissioned before being handed back to the city.
With the importance of the CCTV network across the city, planning and project management is immensely important to minimise the downtime to each camera. Lightspeed’s project management team work closely with the cities community safety team and our team of specialist partners to plan times and dates for each pole replacement to help keep our community safe.
