The City of South Perth is a local government area in the inner southern suburbs of Perth, approximately 4km from the CBD. Lightspeed Communications has had an ongoing relationship with the City of South Perth for a number of years.
The customer required a change of their communications room configuration in order to gain better cooling and efficiency, with the primary objective to reposition the current server racks and associated equipment to improve server room heating, cooling and electrical loads for better efficiency.
Lightspeed Communications were engaged to help facilitate this new configuration by unloading the existing server racks and reorganizing all equipment. In addition, Lightspeed undertook an audit of the existing cabinet, as well as installing new 21 inch racks with vertical cable management and new APC Power Distribution Units for power balancing.
Works required the installation of copper and fibre optic ties between racks and the complete unplugging and re-patching of all fibre, data and electrical leads.
Works were required after hours and a dedicated weekend was reduced to the single Saturday outage.
Energy efficiency has already been noted as improving.
To finish the project Lightspeed added colour change LED lights to both front and back of each cabinet.
