The City of Perth along with dedicated service partners have committed to tackling the growing issue of homelessness within the city over the past year.

As part of the cities commitment the decision was made to consolidate the pop-up services currently offered around the city to an area near the Royal Perth Hospital at the recently closed Moore St rail crossing.

Working with PTA, the City of Perth and multiple on-site contractors Lightspeed Communications and Electrical assisted in the concept, design and delivery of the infrastructure required for additional CCTV coverage in the area. The works included installation of 5 new CCTV poles, hundreds of metres of underground conduits, outdoor communications rack and all the fibre optic and low voltage power cables required to connect to the city’s expansive CCTV network.

Early in the design phase it was decided to roll out a powered fibre solution to minimise the number of conduits and pits required to be installed throughout the area.

Powered fibre cables include both the fibre optic cores along with low voltage conductors in the same cable, this allows there to be a central location with battery backup that can keep cameras operational if there is an unexpected power outage.

At the field locations media converters are installed that both power the camera or wireless access point and transmit the signal back to a network switch. The equipment was selected to enable multiple cameras to be powered over a single cable with prevision for spare cores for any additional connections.
