Telfer Mine site which is owned and operated by Newcrest Mining is a large gold mine located in the Central North of Western Australia comprising of both major above and below ground operations.
To ensure communications connectivity across the site there is an extensive redundant fibre optic network linking together administration, operational, maintenance buildings as well as and extensive network underground.
Lightspeed Communications has a long history of working on the communications infrastructure both above and below ground at Telfer. Lightspeed technicians often work alongside the operations personnel on site to assist with repairs, moves and maintenance of the fibre optic network.
With the ongoing mining activities underground there has been need recently to move and expand the existing infrastructure. Due to the complexities of the moves and changes required these works took place over several mobilizations with numerous changes of scope. These changes were required due to operational and maintenance constraints on site. The Lightspeed technicians on site liaised with the project managers both on site and in Perth to keep moving on works whilst any delays were resolved.
