Rio Tinto’s Nammuldi iron ore mine project 60km north-west of Tom Price in the Pilbara was a construction project in excess of $180 million. The project comprised the construction of a processing plant, mine service facilities, a stockyard and an explosives compound.
This plant and its expansion will allow iron ore mined below the water table and increase the mine’s production limit from eight to 23 million tonnes a year.
During the project multiple contractors engaged Lightspeed Communications to install, test and commission both OPGW and LT fibre optics across the site.
Works included:
• Having qualified teams on site for all fibre optic works, major milestones and involved in critical consultancy meetings to oversee the installation and design of the
systems
• Jointing, testing and commissioning of underground and aerial fibre optic cables
• Fibre optic core allocation design and consultation with project managers.
